The traditional grid to me represents the rigid structure of life. Some of our most famous cities are designed around a grid, and most of the digital images we view today are comprised of many tiny grids. My upbringing combined with my architectural education have created a strong mental understanding of grid and structure. This serves a great purpose in my problem solving skills as it allows the mind to systematically break down the larger problem into smaller and more digestible fragments. It also creates a great deal of inner tension as the mind constantly tries to manage aspects of life that it has absolutely no control over.
My heart and soul on the other hand need freedom. My art comes out not as a hobby or passion but more as a necessity which keeps my life in balance, allowing the mind and soul to coincide. The grid in my artwork helps guide the overall compositions to work within certain structural parameters. The grid's ability to expand exponentially upon itself gives my artwork depth and dimension. The cool thing about utilizing the grid is that it serves a dual purpose. It controls and limits structure while giving me the freedom to bring my visions to life in all proportions.
